Paranormal and Unexplained Audio

The following are examples of audio anomalies captured by Haunted Auckland during our recent investigations. Detailed information and our latest evidence can be found in our Investigation Reports.

Howick Historical Village

The above audio anomaly was captured at approximately 5:30pm, 90 minutes into the investigation, within the Eckfords Maraetai Homestead building (36.90724S,174.902729E). We believe this to be an example of Electronic Voice Phenomenon (EVP) as the voice recorded on the digital recorder was not heard by any of the team members present at the time it was captured.

Above are two samples taken from a 150 second recording at the location. The first sample has not been altered apart from cropping the length to 15 seconds. The second sample has been amplified by 30dB to improve listenability. The audio anomaly or EVP occurs at 10.5 seconds into the sample and appears to be made up of two syllables whispered in a male voice:

Above are two copies of the same audio anomaly captured simultaneously on two recorders in separate rooms. The anomaly sounds like a woman sighing in the first recording from the kitchen, and in the 2nd recording taken in the bedroom it appears to continue with indistinct words. This was captured while only 3 male investigators were present.

Auckland Civic Theatre

The above audio was recorded in the backstage area of the main auditorium. The anomalous voice occurs at 16/17 seconds. Voice of team members can be heard directly after the anomalous voice, but they are more distant. The digital recorder which captured this audio was placed in such a position that the footsteps of anyone approaching it could be clearly heard on the audio, however no one was heard to approach or leave the recorder before or after this voice was captured.

The first sample above has been trimmed from a longer piece of audio, but is otherwise unaltered. The second sample above is a copy of the first which has been amplified by 30dB to improve listenability.

The above audio was also recorded in the backstage area of the main auditorium. The anomalous sound occurs at 10 seconds. The sound appears to be fairly close to the recorder when it was captured, however (as mentioned above) no one was able to approach the digital recorder without clearly being picked up on the audio, and no footsteps or movement where heard on the audio before or after this anomaly was captured.

The first sample above has been trimmed from a longer piece of audio, but is otherwise unaltered. The second sample above is a copy of the first which has been amplified by 30dB to improve listenability.

Waitomo Caves Hotel

The odd voice in the above recording was captured during an E.V.P. session conducted by Barbara from Haunted Auckland and Patrick from Strange Occurrences in a storage room near Cat Alley. An out of place, gruff male voice is heard 2.5 seconds into the recording, as well as several other instances where there appears to be a third person talking over top, or in the background. The recorder was stationary for the whole EVP session

Victoria Theatre and Picture Palace

The above audio was recorded in the upstairs projection room. There has been some debate within the team over the veracity of this E.V.P. due to noise contamination from a downstairs bar which was still open during the investigation, the noise and music from which was present on much of our audio. At the time of the recording however, the team members present in the projection room could not hear any individual voices coming from the bar, and believe that the voice captured was not audible at the time.

Onehunga Historic Building

This recording was captured in the library room of a undisclosed historic building. It is sharp and loud metallic sound, similar to a heavy metal door latch clicking into place, however the doors leading into the room had no such metal latches.

The Legendary Hard To Find Bookshop, Onehunga

Audio Recording #1 - "Help" Voice

Audio Recording #2 - Dog Barking

Captured by our team member Barbara at the Hard to Find Bookshop in Onehunga the two piece of audio above were included in our report. This first is a voice which faintly calls for help. The second is a usual instance of a dog barking which was not heard by any of the investigators present at the time, despite various other pieces of back-ground and external noise being noted by investigators while recording.

Auckland Civic Theatre

The above piece of audio evidence was recorded by our investigator Kris in one of the men's bathrooms during our second visit to The Civic. Between 7 and 12 seconds a voice can be heard which Kris reacts to, thinking he was being called, however there was no one else present or trying to call him.

Titirangi Private Residence

These two recordings were captured by our investigator Kris during an E.V.P. session at a private residence in Titirangi. In the first recording a humming, with the cadence of human speech, can be heard between 7.5 and 9 seconds. A similar humming is also captured in the second recording between 7 and 9 seconds.
